CADET ACTIVITIES ENDOWMENT FUND

USMA has four separate developmental areas: military, physical, academic, and the moral-ethical, which cuts across the first three areas and provides the foundation for a lifetime of service.  The Cadet Activities program significantly enhances the development of cadets in all four of these areas and is an essential part of the West Point experience.  The Cadet Activities program helps develop leaders of character.  USMA views all Cadet Clubs as leadership labs vital to the 47 month experience.  Despite receiving the title of the most Robust Extracurricular Activities Program in the country, West Point views its clubs as the most robust CO-curricular program.

In the recent annual report I received from the AOG this month about the Cadet Activities Endowment I learned that our class contribution amounts to between 1/6 and 1/4 of the ~$4,000,000 value of the current endowment.  (The endowment value was closer to $6 million before the market tanked.) Annual proceeds/interest from our portion of the endowment was used in the last year in the following purchases to support the various clubs: 9K went to the Pistol Team for new pistols, 7K went to the Sailing Team for a new sailboat and dinghy repair, 6K went to the Cycling Team for uniforms, 12K went to the Equestrian Team for blacksmith services, 3.5K went to the Skeet and Trap Team for new targets, 12K went to the Triathlon Team for new uniforms, 5K went to the Crew Team for new dock sections, and $500 went to the Officers Christian Fellowship for transportation.
