Class of 1960
50th Reunion
May 15-19, 2010

December 8, 2009

Dear Classmates:

Our 50-year class reunion, scheduled for May 15-19, is fast approaching. We hope you can join us in celebrating this milestone in the life of the Class of 1960!

The purpose of this letter is to get you and those who will come with you signed up for the events and meals we have scheduled and, if interested, for class memorabilia that is being sold. Additionally, we have enclosed the current lists of Classmates Registered and a copy of the Agenda for the weekend. We have also included a Menu Sheet to assist in making your event attendance decisions. Note: If you did not register for the reunion earlier, you may do so now (last chance)!

EVENT AND REGISTRATION FEES AND SIGN-UP: The deadline to register, if you have not previously done so is March 1, 2010. The deadline to sign up for events is April 15. Please complete the enclosed Event and Registration form and mail in the enclosed envelope to: Class of 60 Reunion, PO Box 620, Skaneateles, NY 13152. Be sure to include the required registration fee if you have not already done so. This cost is $250 for a classmate and spouse or significant other, or $150 for a classmate or widow. If you are bringing additional guests who will be riding our buses, we are requiring a $50 per person fee which covers the cost of round trip transportation and name badges. Refunds of the registration fee and the cruise, if you have already paid, are available until March 1, 2010 and event/meal money refunds are available until 1 May. The registration fees cover reunion mementos and special items, bus transportation, use of a well-stocked hospitality suite, and reunion administrative expenses for graduates and their spouses or significant others. Checks should be made out to the Class of ’60 Reunion. Please note that meal events require a ticket and enable us to plan for the correct number of meals; only an extremely limited number will be available for purchase at the door.

PARKING/TRANSPORTATION: Please note that parking on West Point is very limited. Those planning to drive to West Point will be required to clear security via the Thayer or Stoney Lonesome gates and park at Buffalo Soldiers Field or the old PX parking lot—and then walk or shuttle bus to Central Area. Washington Gate is for DOD sticker holders with Government ID card. There is NO PARKING for our class in Central Area. We strongly recommend taking the buses Tuesday. Please indicate on the event sign up form how many in your party will use the buses each day so we can order the correct number of buses. Only those signing up for them will receive tickets.

MEMORABILIA: The Everywear Company is offering Class of 1960 items for individual purchase. See the enclosed Order Form that contains pictures and descriptions of the items. You can order by phone, mail, fax, or on-line. See the instructions on the order form. Payment can be made by credit card or by check made payable to Everywear. If you order by April 1, then the items will be available for pick up during registration at the reunion hotel. There will also be a limited stock of these shirts and jackets available for purchase during the reunion.

LODGING: Our block of rooms for $154.00 per night before taxes is still available. Contact the Marriott Westchester Hotel, 670 White Plains Road, Tarrytown, New York 10591 to reserve a room in the Class of 1960 block by calling 800-228-9290 or the hotel directly at 914-631-2200. The online code if reserving online at www.marriott.com is WPAWPAA. Please reserve only the number of nights you definitely will need at the hotel. This will allow you to avoid no-show, double-booking, or early checkout fees and will help us accommodate every classmate who needs a room at this popular hotel. The hotel manager will keep our rooms blocked until April 28, 2010, but it is possible they will fill completely before then. Once again, we recommend making your reservations as soon as possible.

AGENDA/DRESS: The enclosed agenda lists the times and events for the reunion. Sunday’s supper reception will be held at the hotel and is a casual affair (sports shirts and slacks). Monday’s luncheon cruise attire is also casual or sport coat with open collar. For Tuesday’s visit to West Point which includes the Alumni Review, Luncheon and Memorial Service, we are asking all graduates to wear blue or dark blazer, tie (class if you have it), and tan trousers. We’ll also wear a class baseball cap which will be included in the registration packet to the parade. The agenda for Tuesday allows some minimal time for touring the Central Area, visiting Nininger Hall, the newly renovated Arvin Gym, and shopping in the usually “closed to the public” Cadet Store. While we will have some bus support between venues on post, please wear comfortable walking shoes for the day. The dress for the class dinner/dance on Tuesday evening will be a suit or sport coat/tie for the men and cocktail or Sunday dress for the women.

You will recall that we are planning a luncheon cruise around New York Harbor on Monday, May 17, and we have had a total of 399 who have indicated their intent to participate in the cruise. There is still time to sign up for the cruise and we ask all who signed up and made a deposit to remit the balance of the cost as shown on the event sheet with this response form.

We are again planning a golf tournament for Sunday, May 16, and we ask all those interested to check the proper block on the enclosed response sheet. The response has been light so far for golf, and there may not be sufficient interest in that event to carry on with it. Please let us know if you would like to add your best efforts to this event for the 50th.

A reminder that, in response to the survey we conducted two years ago, we are bussing to West Point only on Tuesday; and that is a very full day with little time in the schedule for walking around and seeing the new facilities at West Point. Some may wish to arrive early on Saturday or Sunday and take a self-guided tour of West Point before the main reunion events begin in order to gain a better appreciation of recent additions to the facilities.

Recognition of Golden Wedding Anniversaries: It has been suggested that the Class recognize at the reunion all those who will celebrate 50th Wedding Anniversaries in the year 2010. We intend to do so and would like all those attending who qualify within that time limit to send in two pictures for use in a display honoring you and your anniversaries. If you will send a wedding day picture and a current day picture in electronic format (jpeg) we will include your photos in a small display honoring you and the longevity of your wedded bliss. Send the pictures to John Denton at Hipfractu@aol.com or to Roy O’Conner at roylynnoc@yahoo.com.

Questions/Updates: If you have specific questions or comments please contact Charley Otstott at cotstott@aol.com or Joan Emmer, Reunion Coordinator at wplaxmom@roadrunner.com or 315-685-3765.

Watch the class web page at http://www.usma60.com to follow reunion updates. We will post to the web page a list of area restaurants which are close to the hotel in an effort to assist those arriving early who hope to get together in small groups or have company events as well as for your site selection for cadet company dinner gatherings on Monday night.

We are looking forward to a terrific 50th Reunion. It will be a time to renew old friendships, see the latest Academy developments, and remember fallen classmates. Thanks to all for the great response to date.

Go Like ’60,

Charley Otstott
Chairman, 50
th Reunion Committee
